Wic Military - Due to its history as a major port and its position as the home of the country's main international airport, Sydney is perhaps the only city in Australia with a truly international atmosphere. However, it remains a very Australian city, striking a fine balance between its British heritage and the attractions of its South Sea climate and environment.

Greater Sydney stretches from the Blue Mountains in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east, and from the southern shores of Lake Macquarie to the north of Botany Bay in the south. Only one-third is classified as urban, but the majority of the region's population lives in urban areas.
The suburban sprawl, fueled by the affordability of land in earlier days and the determination of ordinary Australians to own their own houses and gardens, created problems for authorities responsible for sewage and transport. The spread differs from the relatively small and compact district located on a narrow rocky peninsula between two harbor arms in Sydney's inner city.

The Sydney region is fortunate to be fully covered by dozens of national and regional parks and recreation areas – a unique distinction for a major city. Sydney Harbour, Carrigal and Lane Cove National Parks are located within the city;
Kur-Ring-Kai Chase National Park is to the north; and the National Botanic and Royal Gardens are to the south. The mouth of the Hawkesbury River, with its many finger inlets, provides wonderful sheltered water space for boats, while the magnificent sandy beaches of the Pacific coast stretch north and south of the town, providing a haven for watercraft enthusiasts.

City Layout
The same variation can be seen in the style of sports buildings. While most houses in the suburbs are single-story bungalows built of brick or wood, many of the buildings in the commercial center are high-rise structures, where land values are much higher.
Rapid growth beginning in the 1960s transformed the downtown area, which now resembles a miniature Manhattan rising from the harbor, although in reality most buildings are not tall by North American standards. Above the city center is Sydney Tower (completed 1981; spire added 1991), which reaches a height of 1,000 feet (305 meters) and houses restaurants and an observation deck.

Additional commercial centers emerged on Sydney's northern side, connected to the city by the Harbor Bridge and 15 miles (25 km) west of Parramatta city centre. Sydney, the city, is the capital of the Australian state of New South Wales.
Located on the southeast coast of Australia, Sydney is the country's largest city and its magnificent harbor and strategic location make it one of the most important ports on the Pacific Ocean. By the beginning of the 19th century, when it was still a small convict settlement and the first settlers had barely arrived, it was already trading with the Pacific Islands, India, China, South Africa and the United States.

The city's architecture is generally modest, although there are some beautiful surviving buildings from the 19th century and some unique modern buildings, including the magnificently designed Opera House.
Magnificent Macquarie Street, which runs from Hyde Park to the Opera House, is home to all the major government buildings of the 19th and 20th centuries. However, the overall effect of Sydney is fascinating, and the countless bays and arms of the harbor extend inland and offer unexpected views from every street.
The first view of Sydney, from the sea or from the air, is always spectacular. Built around a large harbor with countless bays and inlets, the low hills are dominated by the Sydney Harbor Bridge, one of the longest steel arch bridges in the world, and the Opera House with its gleaming white domes.
Shaped roofs that seem to echo the sails of the many boats in the nearby harbor. The sudden turns of water and buildings are stunning day or night.
